Where else are you going to find a copywriter who not only writes websites, articles, brochures, ads, emails, press releases and books, but has also organised a team, created Powerpoint presentations, given talks, worked on marketing plans, run spreadsheets for budgets and data, completed funding applications and dealt with people of all kinds of backgrounds and status?
Hi, I’m Doug Smith.
What’s the one thing you need to know about copywriting? That it’s about identifying your goals, and then influencing your readers to follow them.
As a copywriter, my goal is all about you, the client. I started Look Here to help you speak better to your customers, visitors, users and clients, and to help you grow your turnover.
My mission: to use content and copy to help your business become more effective and successful.
It’s about your business, your customers, your profile, and your future.
You’ll love working with a copywriter who has your best interests at heart…
Set people up
I want to put businesses and individuals in a place where they can forge ahead and stand tall. Everyone wants to feel good about themselves, and this helps your clients and customers have confidence in you as well. It’s all about getting to know people and drawing out what makes you unique.
Be the best you can be
In every job, I bring my best game to the table, and in turn I want to show how you do too. I want to emphasise your positive aspects, highlight your most interesting, potent and useful points, and create copy for your business that will show you being the best you can be.
Make people sound irresistible
You will always come across best when you address your reader’s problems, queries, hopes and desires. Instead of an emotionless, self-centred run-down of your services, you’ll drawn in your clients, customers or users and make them realise you are the solution they were looking for, because we’ll know exactly what they need, and will speak to them directly.
Make it fun!
Working out what you need to say on your website and in your publicity should be exciting, intriguing and fun. After all, this is your livelihood, skills and persona we’re talking about! My aim is to make any discovery session an interesting, revealing process that we all enjoy.
Before copywriting, I spent 19 years in the music business negotiating, persuading and selling on behalf of artists on a daily basis. There was never a set formula to any campaign – every artist has their own career path according to their sound, their audience and their timing. This often meant having to be creative, flexible, innovative and pragmatic in equal measure.
While constantly putting words together to win over people, I was also building networks and relationships, identifying strengths, planning strategies and honing my tenacity and persistence. Connecting with people and being determined are key in that, or any, industry.
I’ve been lucky to work with people all over the UK and abroad, from all backgrounds and all levels of business. I can contribute positive ideas, bring experience to the table, talk to people confidently in meetings and on the phone, and write a killer email.
I’ve always loved stories, slogans, questions, catch phrases, dialogue, characters, wordplay… the list goes on. My other simple pleasures are strong tea, Italian coffee, taking my sons to places and catching up on films with my wife.
Back to writing…
Think you can’t afford to hire a copywriter? In this highly-competitive world, you can’t afford not to hire one.
People make decisions based on emotions, not logic. You need to talk to people in the same way they think and speak themselves, and about the things that matter to them. If your potential customers or clients feel they can trust you, and can imagine the benefits of your service, they’ll be persuaded before they pick up the phone.
Good copywriting can improve awareness, increase traffic to your website and make people do what you need them to. Your potential customers will reach for their wallets, sign up for your mailing list, ask for a sample, order an e-book, make a donation or share your message.
My aim is to connect with you and figure out the reasons and goals behind the job. I’ll work through your needs, offer advice and tips, and provide you with effective content that brings positive change to your business.
I enjoy being thorough, creative, rigorous and accountable. I don’t want to get caught out, and I wouldn’t want you to either. I’ll respond quickly, listen and learn about your project, and produce exactly what you need, when you need it.
